Today’s Prompt: Rest
I am exhausted. We went on our first family camping trip this weekend – and it rained. We were wet and soggy and spent all of Saturday huddled under tarps that my husband and brother-in-law masterfully rigged so that we were able to not get completely drenched. We were able to keep a fire going. We got almost no sleep for two nights in a row. The kids were muddy and wet and getting on our nerves by the end of the weekend.
And yet, I feel rested.
We drove up into the North Georgia mountains on Friday afternoon enjoying the breath taking vistas. Our cell phones lost service. We laughed a lot. We problem solved together. We sat around the fire and talked about things big and small. We ate lots of junk food. We enjoyed the beauty of the fog raising up from the lake and surrounding us in the forest. This morning we were dry and went for a walk in the woods. I enjoyed having my 3 year old nephew holding my hand and tripping along beside me swinging a stick. We made memories and built relationships.
We will sleep well in our own warm, dry beds tonight. But spending a weekend disconnected from wi-fi and screens, enjoying the world around us (even though it was wet), and hanging out with people we love has recharged my batteries.
